About this tour

Experience the rich biodiversity of Guanacaste on a private six-hour expedition through the heart of Palo Verde National Park. Starting at 7:00 AM at Puerto Chamorro, this tour combines a river safari with a specialized forest hike to offer some of the finest birdwatching and wildlife photography opportunities in Costa Rica. We begin with a two-hour guided boat tour along the calm waters of the Tempisque River. This riparian corridor is a paradise for wildlife viewing, where we will look for monkeys, iguanas, and crocodiles along the banks. If fortune favors us, we may even spot unusual proboscis bats roosting over the water. The river environment provides an excellent vantage point for observing aquatic species like the Snail Kite and the majestic Jabiru. Following the boat tour, we continue the adventure with a four-hour hike through the park's terrestrial trails. This portion of the trip is specifically designed to search for the region's most emblematic dry-forest birds. We will focus our efforts on finding the Lesser Ground-Cuckoo, White-necked Puffbird, and the stunning Turquoise-browed Motmot, alongside Elegant Trogon and Black-headed Trogon. Whether you are a dedicated birder or a wildlife photographer, this itinerary offers a comprehensive look at the unique species of Rincón de la Vieja, Santa Rosa, and Palo Verde.
